The story of our humble begining......

The Steel Detailers, Inc. was incorporated on September 20th, 1979 in the state of Florida. Since that date we have been engaged in the engineering and detailing of structural steel. My father, Roger Bishop, started in the steel industry in 1956 working for Teesside Bridge and Engineering Works in England. In 1964 after working in England on the International Paper Company job for Augusta Ironworks (now Cives Steel Company), he accepted a position with Augusta Ironworks and moved to the United States in October 1964. After 5 years in the snow, he opted for warmer weather (and great fishing) and moved to Florida. In Florida he was employed by Lake Engineering of Chicago as a detailer/checker for 2 years, followed by 6 years with Gulf Steel as General Manager. In 1977 he ventured out on his own and began a small fabrication and erection company. While continuing along those lines, he started The Steel Detailers, Inc. in 1979 as an engineering and detailing firm. Over the years we've run from 6 to 45 men on permanent and/or contract basis, depending on the workload. Currently, in the United States, our office consists of 15 employees. The Steel Detailers, Inc. is an active member of the National Institute of Steel Detailing with all of our senior personnel certified through the NISD Detailer Certification Program. The Steel Detailers, Inc. is also an active member of the American Institute of Steel Construction. In 1993 we started an office in England. At the present time we have 18 men working in England on a detailer/checker basis. These men range from the office manager, whom my father worked with back in 1966 and who has 37 years experience, down to the youngest member who has 8 years in the business. The Steel Detailers, Inc. uses Design Data's SDS/2 3D modeling and detailing package to provide accurate and timely shop fabrication drawings. The Steel Detailers, Inc. also offers an extensive EDI (Electronic Data Interface) with exporting and importing capabilities to and from just about any software that your company uses. We can transfer data to and from our FTP site or yours.  We also provide all types of CNC downloads to most shop equipment. We specialize in 3D model interface with other engineering packages to speed up delivery schedules and cut cost.
